We launched the Shopify Analyzer beta version in February.
Here’s what we’ve been doing since then:
- Using it on a daily basis to analyze and optimize Shopify sites
- Gathering feedback from our team, users, and customers
- Dialing in the scoring system based on our data
- Planning more cool features π
Now it’s ready to rock full speed, officially version 1.0!
What is the Shopify Analyzer?
It’s a free web app that analyzes Shopify sites, scores performance based on key optimization areas, and gives recommendations to make your site faster.
If you haven’t used it yet, click here to analyze your Shopify site.
Why we built it
There are some good analysis tools out there, but none are geared specifically for Shopify sites.
We also see a lot of people mistakenly think Google PageSpeed score is correlated to actual performance, and get frustrated when they don’t score well (side note: nobody scores well).
Google PSI is good to get ideas, but the scoring system is buggy (here’s a case study where score decreased after making a site faster, this happens frequently).
You might also see performance tools recommend things you can’t change, like “leverage browser caching on 3rd party apps”. You don’t have access to those apps, and it also might not be the best move anyway.
The Shopify Analyzer targets the key optimization points you can change, and gives you the information to improve your performance.
What’s next?
We’ll continue updating the app, adding features, and making it better.
We use it as part of our workflow, but also want to make it easier for you to use.
The goal is to make it super easy to use and provide valuable insights to improve your site’s performance.
